Pasco Cave (Browser Beware)
I won’t share your information with any third party except where it helps me run my website, prevents spam, jerks, ass-holes, or is required by law. By accessing or otherwise interacting with my website, you agree that I, Just Plain Tom, am the supreme overload of my little universe. If I disagree with you, you are nasty, or I develop a dislike toward you, or your cat, I will delete your comments. If you piss me off, I’ll block you.
If you spam me or try to hack the website, I will go out of my way to make you have a really bad day.
My opinions are my own. If you disagree with me, please feel free to make a respectful reply in the comments. If I make product recommendations, I may have an affiliate relationship with the product where I get a commission if you purchase through my links. Regardless, the opinions expressed are my own.
If you have a problem with any of this, please exercise your right to freedom of browsing and visit another website! May I suggest “This Website!“
For some specifics, please see below.
Who I am
My website address is: https://justplaintom.com, and I am “Just Plain Tom”
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, I collect the data shown in the comments form and the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on my site, you may opt-in to save your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit my login page, I will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, I will set up several cookies to save your login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last two days, and screen options cookies last a year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and indicates the post ID of the article you edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Who do I share your data with
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email. I use a variety of third-party services and plug-ins on my website. Some of these will set their own cookies or otherwise track your data. This is primarily to prevent the jerks who try to spam or hack the website.
How long I retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so Ican automatically recognize and approve any follow-up comments instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on my website (if any), I also store the personal information they provide in their user profiles. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights do you have over your data?
If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where is your data sent?
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Other Services
I use a variety of third-party services to run my website. These services may set their own cookies, track your interaction with my website or other websites, or violate your cat. They have their own privacy policies. If you are paranoid, stay off the internet! If you are curious, you can check them out yourself.
Some of them are:
- Google Analytics – https://analytics.google.com
- Ionos.com – https://ionos.com
- Gravatar.com – https://gravatar.com
